Three Steps to Simplify Facebook

Facebook can be a huge time waste and if we let it, allow our eyes to be bombarded with ads and other time wasters.

  1. Move Liked Pages to Separate or Multiple Interest Lists. Unlike the page and create an interest by going to the sidebar and click More and from there you should be able to add an Interest. If you don’t make it private, other people can subscribe to your interest list. I find the best way to unlike something is as an article pops up in the timeline, unlike it there and add it to the interest list. Removes metrics from advertisers. Makes your timeline more personal. Removes some of the stickiness of staying on facebook and wasting time. Adds another hurdle to go to for less relevant and more time consuming posts.

  2. Block shares from other pages. Click the down arrow/carrot in the upper right corner of each share, click Hide All from the Name of Shared Page. In some instances, you will just have to hide the post itself to train Facebook what you do not want to see. This keeps only original status updates on your timeline and removes viral memes/videos.

  3. Keep a Few Select Meaningful Pages. Only keep those pages that add value and joy, but also do not waste your valuable time.
